Today I've been thinking about a french phrase called 'esprit d'escalier', which translates to mean 'the wit of the staircase'. This refers to the moment when you remember that perfect comeback, the witty response, the snide remark, to that argument you had half an hour ago.

"Esprit d'escalier. The answer you cannot make, the pattern you cannot complete till afterwards it suddenly comes to you when it is too late."

Please post your favourite word or expression and explain it.

Discombobulated - thrown into a state of confusion.

I remember learning it when I was little. Mum mentioned it, Dad called her out on it not existing, but she proved him wrong with her 'American Dictionary", although it does in fact exist world wide.
